Are you struggling to schedule or add a custom Model In-Place Component to your Revit legends? You’re not alone! A colleague recently sent me a project where the main gate was modeled In-Place, causing major issues when we tried to integrate it into the door schedule. In this dedicated tutorial, I share the crucial workaround I found: converting that In-Place element into a standard, loadable RFA Family file. Learn this easy technique to fix scheduling problems, clean up your workflow, and properly categorize all custom components in your Revit projects.

The Problem with In-Place Components

When you create a custom element using the Model In-Place tool, that element is permanently bound to your current project. This is fine for one-off features, but if you need to generate a Door Schedule, Window Schedule, or other specific list, the in-place geometry will be missing.

The solution is to use a clever workflow to extract and re-categorize the geometry as a standard Loadable Family.
